About INsite

Why and how we’re building more accessible futures

Mission

We are a collective of researchers and creators with diverse abilities. Together, we design and build universally usable technologies and share what we learn with the world.

Vision

We strive to understand how technologies affect the physical safety and social wellbeing of marginalized people, and commit to sharing and reflecting upon what we learn to create a more equitable world. To achieve this goal, we examine the technological threats to the safety and wellbeing of people with disabilities and the role digital technologies might play in reducing, or exacerbating, existing inequities.
Our Values

Our Values

We are a collective of people who...

Value our diverse identities

We co-create collaborative spaces by recruiting and supporting people with diverse disability, racial, ethnic, sexual, gender, and socioeconomic identities.

Foster an inclusive and respectful work environment

We welcome generative critique and difficult conversations in order to grow while ensuring that language and other forms of expression always remain inclusive.

Strive for individual and mutual growth

We cultivate relationships in which we genuinely feel that "I don’t shine if you don’t shine".

Reflect on ourselves and our research

We identify the ethical and epistemological limitations of our research with respect to our positionality.

Desire to make a more equitable world.

We aim to create mutual benefit through collaboration and engage in-depth with community partners for a more socially just future.

Acknowledge our privilege and ethical tensions in the work we do

We realize we operate within institutions shaped by forces of colonialism, patriarchy, ableism, classism etc., from which we both benefit and/or may be harmed.

Assess our work to ensure alignment with our values

We focus on high quality research first and publications or communications second, never publishing work that fails to meet our standards and values.

Value our diverse identities.

We co-create collaborative spaces by recruiting and supporting people with diverse disability, racial, ethnic, sexual, gender, and socioeconomic identities.
